I'm starting something new tonight. My new BFF is going to be a DVD. A workout DVD, no less. After we bought the house last summer, the gym membership was sacrificed. Oh, how I missed being able to go to the gym this abysmal winter. I need exercise. I hate running, so saying that running will become my main form of exercise is complete sabotage of success. I mean, I can do it alright, but it is complete torture.
Usually.
Mostly.
Always.
The Stallion is an avid P90X believer. He had just finished the 3 month program when I met him. You know, back when he was single and spent all his time working out and going out. Let me just tell you - I know first-hand the wonders the P90X routine can do for the body. Oh. My.
I've tried twice to do it with The Stallion, but haven't made it past day 4. He didn't like doing it with me because the coach in him came out and he felt he had to constantly motivate and push me. Which I thought was awesome, but later learned that made me a poor workout partner. He goes it alone these days. That jerk.
If you don't know anything about P90X, just watch late night TV and you're bound to come across a 30 minute infomercial on the program. It's an hour to an hour and a half each day. It's strenuous - I've never had more difficulty walking than after those first few days. But it's just not something I could ever stick with. At an hour and a half, we wouldn't eat dinner until 8 if we worked out at night. And if I could actually pull myself out of bed in the morning, that would mean I'd have to get up by... 5:30 or 6. Yeah, let's be realistic on that one. Not gonna happen.
Enter the 30 Day Shred from Jillian Michaels. I heard about it through the grapevine. Apparently she's a trainer on The Biggest Loser. I've never watched the show. BUT - here's why I think it might work for me: the workout is only 22 minutes long. Not only that, but the longest interval is 3 minutes - so if I'm always switching it up, it'll make it seem to go by faster and will keep me interested. The catch? Every. Single. Day. I'll happily do it if it's only 22 minutes of the day! (Check back on eagerness in a few days...)
The Stallion has started the P90X routine again. This is week 3 for him. He gets up at 515 every day to work out and make it to work by 7. He's blessed that his company will let him work flex hours so he can leave at 4 every day to make it to lacrosse practice. He loves coaching and it's so great he's able to make it all work. So, now that I'll be joining the exercising ranks again tonight, the competition is ON!
On another note, flag football starts next week.
I LOVE PLAYING FLAG FOOTBALL.
Seriously, LOVE. I'm going to be sucking wind those first few games, but it will be well worth it. I hope our team does well this season - wonder what the competition will look like. (Please note: flag football is one instance in which I love running.)
I know not one person in this photo, but I hope I don't look like that girl when I hike the ball.
P.S. For the record, I think the 'LOSE UP TO 20 POUNDS IN 30 DAYS!' line on the DVD cover is ridiculous. It in no way factored into my decision to buy this DVD. I can't imagine shedding (ahem, shredding) 20 pounds in 4 weeks, but I'm at least optimistic for naive people out there that this is an exercise program promising that and not a diet or a pill.
